Beauty: A Psychological Experience
“It is helpful to remember that Beauty is both a physical and psychological experience”- Psychologist Vivian Diller
Ever notice how good you feel right after you get your nails or hair done? Well it's not just you. In recent years there have been studies showing the positive effects of beauty treatments on your mental health. Knowing you look good is an instant mood booster. Maintaining some sort of grooming routine gives you some consistency that is great for counteracting anxiety and instilling discipline.
Beauty indulgence is also beneficial for your self esteem. There is so much confidence to be gained by just feeling “put together”. Even if you can only splurge for one area like your nails. Your hands are within your line of sight all day, when you feel confident about how your hands look you automatically come off more confident to others. If you’re an acrylic girly, you know 100% after that new set you are typing faster and talking with your hands more than usual! Be sure to grab the rose cuticle oil so whether your nails are done or not they still look healthy and moisturized. Also pay attention to my stories on ig @samarasbeautyclub where there are links to luxury hand creams that come highly recommended by your favorite Nordstrom Beauty Stylist. A lot of the time looking clean and hydrated is enough to make you feel ready to conquer the day.
There’s a lot of chatter on the internet about maintaining a high maintenance beauty routine throughout the month so you can maintain a low maintenance lifestyle for your regular day to day. For example, getting your lashes done every 2 weeks so you don’t have to apply strips or mascara everyday. Or getting your hair done once a month so you only have to touch up the style while getting ready everyday. All of these practices make us feel more confident because we wake up feeling better which convinces us in our minds that we are almost “naturally” better looking since it took little to no effort in the morning to look great. A lot of these treatments last much longer than just having a nice outfit on today or doing your makeup really well and having to take it off at the end of the night.
Just make sure you are taking care of yourself in a way that is sufficient for you. You may be more gel x than acrylic, more claw clip than tape ins, or more lip balm than full beat and that’s okay. Do what works for you and makes the most sense for your circumstances. Don’t wait for that one event to pull yourself together just to feel horrible the next day when you no longer look like that.
Always do whatever you can to feel your best everyday. Confidence is BUILT. Stop treating it as a luxury that you only have access to on special occasions.
